Is Red Dead Redemption as good as Grand Theft Auto?

Looking to pick up a video game for my nephew, I’ve heard mixed reviews about this game. Is the gameplay the same as Grand Theft Auto IV or does it have a totally different feel to it?

Better or worse than GTA? Thanks. Please only answer if you’ve played the game first-hand.

Red Dead completely and utterly
After GTA’s story is complete there’s nothing else to do….apart from stunts?
ok in RDR, you can go hunting, do ‘Stranger’ missions. There is constant random encounters while riding around. The map is twice the size of Liberty City(3 times the size of San Andreas if you know it)
Loads of small side missions (Horse breaking jobs, night watch, bounty hunting)

Overall, its a newer, more polished, more refined, tweaked and better game with more replay value and enjoyment.

But of course, to get as much enjoyment as i did, you’ll need a love of Western games, movies etc.
If he has more than a remote interest in the West, then he should love it!

Well GTA IV is a great game. It runs on a special physics engine the make everything like real life.
Red Dead Redemption has that same engine but tweaked and refined to make it better.
I would get GTA IV because I love the New York City feel. Its that type of game that is so real that you try to be as real as you can with it. Like stopping at red lights. Haha
