I am going to be studying in the UK this spring, but have not made a decision on a university specifically yet. Is there any sites that offer good reviews/ratings on not only academics, but on other things.. like student living, dining, atmosphere, housing, etc. for unis in the UK?

So if you have answers and or reviews please tell me. I’d love to hear from actual SSU students. I’m considering going to SSU so I’m curious.

lots of greek life. culture, dancing. singing. wining. lots of party but studies cant be neglected. not many dropouts shows how successful students balance their lives. u will love it. go in with open mind and u will enjoy it. adapt and adopt

what is the best student college review site?

Posted by admin on June 25th, 2011 and filed under student reviews | 2 Comments »

like websites that have reviews by actual students and not a summary of the school. i’ve looked at studentsreview.com and i’ve looked up colleges i wanted to go to but they all had pretty negative reviews, so i don’t know if this is a good site that represents almost the majority of the students

Well College Prowler is advertised to be solely for that purpose. Their slogan is
"College Reviews by Students for Students"
you can find it here:

www.collegeprowler.com

College Confidential is a forum where you can get some insight to several schools as well

Are student college review websites reliable?

Posted by admin on May 13th, 2011 and filed under student reviews | 2 Comments »

I’ve been browsing around reading college reviews of students (because obviously the information on the college websites is bound to be polished and slightly biased), and I’ve been finding that for many colleges, the reviews are really quite negative. Then I thought about it, and realized that maybe people posting on these college review sites are those few people that are not satisfied with their college experience and hence feel the need to complain on the internet.

If any college students read this, would you say that the student reviews of your college/university are pretty straight on or do the reviewers exaggerate?

Websites like college powler and students review are kind of scaring me now with their negativity….

I will usually look at ratemyprofessor, just to see what people thought about the person. After doing it for quite a few semesters, they can have accurate and inaccurate posts. Some of the posts can be subjective, for instance:
"Teacher x is almost impossible, I struggled to pass!"

Sometimes I would see people say something like that, but then do absolutely fine in the course. You kinda need to ask yourself, "what kind of people go to my school"?.

Overall, I will read the posts for a general idea… but I don’t take them very seriously.

Is it smart to trust online student reviews of a college?

I’m a junior in high school and I visited SUNY Binghamton today, and I absolutely loved it. I’m pretty sure I have the grades to get in and I’m really excited to visit a second time. I plan on going undecided, but I think I want to do something related to education or psychology. I looked at Binghamton because I wanted to have a lot of options as far as majors go and I didn’t want to be too far away from my hometown. (It’s about three hours away by car.)

I did a Google search on Binghamton and I read some student reviews online. Most of them were really negative and it’s disheartening. I was so positive that this was my first choice school and now I’m second guessing.

Some of the comments that kept showing up definitely applied to me. Should I really trust what people are saying?

If you go to Bing. or have been there, what did you think?

Thanks for your help (:
Most of the comments were about the lack of a football team-which I don’t really care about, the "ugly" campus-which I thought was pretty, how Greek life dominates campus (this doesn’t make sense to me, only 20% of students are in frats/sororities), and how it’s a huge party school. The "party school" comment is bugging me since I don’t party and I don’t plan on it.

The majority of the time, no.
If you can find a trustworthy website, then maybe.

From what I’ve noticed, many of the students who write the reviews have never actually been/visited/studied at the school and are basing their assumptions on rumors they’ve heard. I actually understand how you feel – my school previously had a huge strike which somehow tarnished it’s reputation a little, this brought about insults and rumors of it being a "crappy school" with a "poor educational system" even if the strike had nothing to with the academics, but the prestige only. If one is looking for a prestigious school, then I would never suggest mine. However, if one was asking for a decent education, I would highly suggest mine. My professors are amazing and we’re learning the same things a student in a more prestigious school is learning.

My advice, ignore them. ESPECIALLY if the review is something like, "the professors are crap! They mark so hard!" or "The parties here suck!" Do some research yourself. Visit a lecture you’d be taking if there, if you want. If you liked the school, so be it. The students who wrote the negative reviews obviously had bad experiences there themselves and are biased. Who said you’ll have a bad experience as well? Anywho, I’m not quite positive about SUNY Binghamton, so I can’t tell you about that school specifically.

Hope this helps though!
Good luck.

Edit: Haha, yeah. In that case, don’t bother taking any of those comments into consideration. A football team, an ugly campus, and parties don’t have anything to do with the quality of education, which is the most important factor. Btw, the people who mentioned the "greek life" are probably involved with the "greek life" themselves lol, again, which is why they said that – because it dominates THEIR lives. Also, honestly, almost every university is a "party school." However, you shouldn’t be worried since it’ll only be a "party school" for you if you actually bother to attend the parties. If you don’t go to any parties, then there isn’t any problem. My school is considered one of the biggest party schools in the country – however, I only attended like one of them (not my scene either) and I know people who haven’t gone to any whatsoever. You can make friends with non-party-ers as well (sorry for making up random words lol). All in all, you can have fun without attending parties and you shouldn’t take their stupid comments too seriously.

college student need help where to find reviews…?

Hi I am majoring in accounting. I just failed my federal tax course last summer and this semester I am retaking it.

The last professor had us to use tax act demo for our final exam. However I was able to use the demo but when I had to save it on my pc to send it to him by e-mail.

I got a window poping up saying to buy the full version. So I never was able to turn in my final exam. That is the reason I failed else I would of gotten a C in that class.

Any ways, I am looking for websites to help me review accounting principals and also Federal tax.

I remeber struggling in that federal tax class. The professor never really help us out. When I asked a question he refered me to pages never explained anything. Some students start buying that Federal tax for dummies book.

I would like to know what I should do to help prepair for this second attempt at federal tax class. I also need to brush up on what I learned in accounting. I am forgetting accounting 2 stuff some stuff.
Like the shares of a company etc.

any help I would thank you for it.

You can try IRS self-calculating forms at pdftax.com. They are free and you can print them or email them. Tax info can be found at IRS.gov. I would look at Publication 17.
