Hey guys im going to the Phantom of the OPera tomorrow night with my gf and I was wondering about the dress code for these types of things? Im planning on goin with a shirt and tie should that be ok? Also, what about for the ladies? What appropriate and whats just over the top? Also if anyone has any reviews on the show itself then that would be great!
Wouldnt a jacket be a little too much tho? Its supposed to be over 100 degrees tomorrow!

Since you say you are going to the evening show, I would recommend business casual. For the women, a nice dress would suffice. However, she could dress up in a nice evening gown, too.

i would wear a suit.. and take off the jacket but have it around, makes you look more classy
and a modest looking dress, over the top is looking like your going to the prom wih a ton of makeup and you hair hairsprayed to your head

Most theatres (at least the ones I’ve been around- this is after 4 years in a college theatre program in New York) don’t really have specific dress codes any more. That said, it would be a good idea to dress up a little- your idea of a dress shirt and tie is pretty good. Either wear or carry a jacket that matches your pants, too. And for your girlfriend, a nice (but not necessarily formal) dress or nice pants and blouse. Unless it’s a premier (which, being ‘Phantom’, it’s not) full-on formal wear would probably be a little over-the-top.

Depends on what the normal "show" attire is for your area. Where I live, people go in whatever they feel like wearing–except usually to the opera (especially opening night) they get really dressed up (or so I’ve heard). I’ve gone to live theater in jeans; but you can also get a little more dressed up (suit and tie, or sports coat and tie), ladies can go in casual, in business attire or fancier if they want to. Generally, most theaters won’t throw you out for lack-of-dressiness (unless you come in beach wear). If you’re going out to a fancy dinner before or after, the restaurant might have a defined dress attire though.

Try something very chic. Nice pressed ironed clothes are great for the opera. Dress pants, longsleved shirt with a tie for guys, and for ladies a dress.

I just went to the show the other day for like the 84795837593875th time and everytime I have gone there have been people dressed up but there were a lot of people in jeans and t-shirts as well. there is no dress code and the shirt and tie would be fine. your girlfriend could wear whatever she’d like, a skirt would be fine with a short sleeved shirt it is up to you! i have noticed though, that people in the evening shows go all out. really short skirts and like spaghetti straps would obvioulsy not be the best thing to wear! have fun its an AMAZING show and I love it more than life
