Is it illegal to spread bad reviews about a company?

I tried out a company services and it was so amazingly horrible service I told them I was going to spread bad reviews all over the internet about them. Is that illegal? they said they could go to court if they wanted to but I have hard to believe it.

you got bad service. why WOULDNT you tell someone?

if i get bad service somewhere, i tell EVERYBODY.

if it keeps someone from getting the same shit service i got, then my work here is done.

nothing illegal about it. they wouldnt have reviews sites if it wasnt.

what MIGHT be illegal is if you grossly exaggerate claims. like, say you went to a restaurant and you got crap service and a stomach ache, but you took some pepto bismo and you were fine. if you go on a website and say "the waiter poisoned my food and i had to go to the hospital and get my stomach pumped and then i had to stay there for three days". yeah, THAT might be illegal.

they only threatened court in a pathetic attempt to keep you from posting bad reviews.

You can be sued if you knowingly spread false information that harmed that company.

The truth is an absolute defense to charges of slander or libel. As long as you are spreading the truth and can document that should the need arise, there is NOTHING the company can do. They may sue, but they will not prevail.
