I need my radiator replaced and am considering taking it to a place called Car Tune Diagnostic over on Cave Creek here in Phoenix Arizona… but would love to hear about any experiences you have had.

humbledpie3, The last I knew was that Cave Creek was a very exclusive place to live or own a business, so why not do this:

Buy your own radiator and do the work yourself.

Front wheel drive, or rear wheel drive, a radiator is a radiator, and they are all mounted right in front of the car with usually no more than 2 hoses, these may need changing, and possibly 2 transmission cooler connections at the bottom, and two clips/clamps or bolts at the top.

That’s all there is, just watch out for what comes from where, use a note book if necessary, and remove the hardest to get to connections first, the one’s on the bottom & if you have the transmission cooler lines, and of course the top and bottom radiator hoses.

You’ll need a set of sockets, a pair of pliers or the correct socket, probably with at least 10 inches of extensions to remove the clamps from the hoses, and some fuel line wrenches to loosen the transmission cooler lines. And maybe a longish screwdriver to slide up under the hoses to break the seal so they can be twisted off.

This a really hard job, that just about anybody, man or woman, can do. And no special skills are needed. Just a little time and a willingness to save quite a bit of $.

On Caveat here though, on some imports you will need to bleed off the air from the engine, so buy a temporary subscription to an auto repair site or buy yourself a Haynes manual for your car. These aren’t very good for most auto repairs, but for bleeding off a radiator, they should work just fine.

Each procedure should take an average number of hours, and you get billed at that many hours times the doctor/hospital going rate.

Further legislation could raise/lower/cap/minimum the rate that doctor’s can set, review operation times as technology increases.

Would a system like this work?

The real question is "who decides the going rate for procedures, who decides how long it should take". You would be incentivizing doctors to work faster and possibly more carelessly. (Not terribly unlike how it currently is). I think it makes allot more sense to cut out the bureaucracy and government plans (medicare and medicaid) and let the doctors compete against each other to drive costs back down for the patients.

To answer the question "would that system work?": I think it probably would work, just alike allot of different ideas will work. I just don’t think it would be any more efficient, and probably wouldn’t bring about much forward progress as far as costs or coverage are concerned.

For example, what would I put for lost income if I’m unemployed and have stayed unemployed due to prolonged issues with the car / auto shop as well as physical pain and stress? Would it count if I mentioned the inability to secure a job due to these things resulting from the accident?

Also, the car repair costs have already been paid off. It’s just the medical bills and others that I need to figure out. I’ve included a bit of what I’d like to say, but am unsure if this is too much or if it’s ridiculous to even mention. I’ve never written a demand letter before, so don’t know how it’s supposed to be done.

Here’s pieces of what I have so far:
"It has taken me a while to submit this demand letter since I have not been in the right mind state for some months. I suffer from depression and was previously taking medication however, shortly after the accident I stopped going back for refills so that I could use my money instead to correct the back, shoulder and neck pain resulting from the accident. Being unemployed, I had to decide what needed to be taken care of most and felt the physical pain to be much more debilitating. It’s been a very stressful past several months and I’ve been unable to secure a job since issues with my car and the auto shop as well as dealing with the physical pain and recurring depression, which has additionally made it very difficult to focus, has been taking up a lot of my time.

I am still suffering from back and shoulder pains, resulting in loss of sleep and fatigue due to the inability to sleep. Despite the pain and need for more treatment, I have had to stop chiropractic visits due to the lack of funds– funds which I was initially withdrawing from my emergency savings."

Obviously I have a lot more to write out along with the necessary details of the accident + bills. BUT how is it so far? It feels weird to complain but I do want to be compensated for all the trouble because the accident was not my fault at all.

Any help would be really appreciated.
I’m writing this demand letter to the insurance adjusters– they are the ones who told me to do so, instructing me to mark down expenses as well as pain and suffering. I’ve already received a check to pay off the repairs to the car. They are just waiting for my letter and receipts. The thing I’m having trouble with is how much to ask for pain and suffering as well as what was mentioned above.

As the other poster said, there is no correct answer. What’s it worth to you?

The only "mistake" you can really make is to forget to calculate one of your medical bills and end up with it not-paid-for. The pain and suffering is entirely subjective. Your goal is to feel them out for how much they’re willing to pay to have you go away without going to high as to cause them to slam the door in your face while laughing. The person on the other end of the phone is an adjuster who’s credo is most likely "A good claim is a closed claim." Being wishy-washy isn’t helping.

Your current letter comes-off a bit "woe-is-me". "I’m depressed", "I’m unemployed", "I’m incapable of dealing with the property damage part of my claim with the correct level of assertiveness". This does not project the level of confidence you need to get this done with.

"Dear So & So, Per your request I’m sending you a summary of my claim with your insured. My total medical bills are $xxxx. (itemized below). This accident has caused me a great deal of physical and psychological distress as it occurred during a period when I was already unemployed. The negligence of your insured did not help my situation. Despite the lingering physical effects of this accident I would like to put this incident behind me and I would offer to settle with your insured at this time for a total sum of $xxxxx. In exchange I will sign a full and final release of all claims against your insured. You may contact me by telephone to advise me of your acceptance of this offer at (xxx) xxx-xxxx."

Short and to the point. Leave the door open for a counter-offer, and expect one, and have a plan what to ask for next. Litter the letter with references to "insurance" and "insured" so if it all does end-up litigated they won’t be able to use much or anything in your letter in court. (Courts generally don’t allow juries to know whether there is insurance available or not in most states so the letter would be excluded or heavily redacted.) Don’t write anything in it that you wouldn’t want the insured’s lawyer to be reading to a jury two years from now. Note in the letter "at this time" or another phrase indicating that you could change your mind.

Also- make sure you are clear on whether your medical bills need to be reimbursed to somebody out of your claim settlement. Nothing worse than getting paid and spending the money and then getting a letter from your health insurer that you owe them money back that you no longer have.
