Scion xB. When Scion set out to redesign the nearly three-year-old xB, it asked current owners and fans of the brand what they would like to see on the next generation. Their feedback revealed that people wanted the box-like styling to stay, but also wanted the car to be larger, with a more powerful engine and more standard features, such as cruise control. The result is a vehicle that should appeal to both Scion enthusiasts and other potential buyers, all at a reasonable price. Scion’s straight-forward “mono spec” basic equipment level continues, encouraging customization and making the car-buying process more personal. Honda Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle Review – Kelley Blue Book

Honda Civic. We recently spent a week in a 2008 Honda Civic GX, the only natural gas vehicle (NGV) available to consumers today, and it didn’t take long to appreciate the range and availability of regular ol’ gasoline. The Civic GX is rated for combined fuel economy of 28 miles per GGE (Gasoline Gallon Equivalent, an NGV standard), but the tank holds just eight GGE. Leaving room for error, then, you have to refill the GX about every 180 to 200 miles. That wouldn’t be as big a problem if compressed natural gas (CNG) were available on every other street corner. The thrust of it, we learned in a typical week of cruising, commuting and grocery shopping, is that you have to plan ahead. The 113-horsepower GX is also slower than traditional Civics, and the extra-large fuel tank eats up all but six cubic feet of trunk space. Still, you can count us in as fans. Our nearby CNG stations are on the pricey side, but we still saved about 30 percent on fuel versus a regular Civic. Factor in solo access to the HOV lane, tax incentives and cleaner emissions, and it’s clear why the 2008Civic GX sold out in the first few months of the year. Mini Cooper. At the halfway point in our scheduled year with the MINI, we’ve clocked nearly 6,500 miles on the sporty red hatchback, including three roundtrips from Southern California to Las Vegas. Our MINI has yet to get up close and personal with a service bay of any sort, and other than a mysterious dash light that appeared suddenly at 4,500 miles and vanished almost as quickly, we’ve had nothing to trouble our minds. In fact, the only wear and tear to mention is a loose battery cover on the key fob. As long as we can continue to unlock and start it, we’re looking forward to another six months of happy MINI motoring.

Buick Enclave – Kelley Blue Book’s Review

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under auto reviews | 23 Comments »

www.kbb.com
Many people think Buick only makes cars that appeal to the oldest of drivers. But it may be time to reassess that opinion. With the Enclave crossover-SUV, Buick shows that its vehicles can not only be comfortable and quiet but also, dare we say, cool. The 2008 Buick Enclave isn’t Buick’s first foray into the world of crossover SUVs but it is the brand’s strongest effort yet. Upscale styling, a distinctive interior and an obsessive focus on noise reduction distinguish the 2008 Buick Enclave from the Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia, which share its underpinnings. Kia Rio. Kia has established itself as a builder of economical and feature-packed cars, and the Rio5 is no exception. Though slightly more expensive than the Rio sedan, the Rio5 features more standard equipment as well as a large rear hatch perfect for those whose idea of an active lifestyle isn’t playing video games 24/7. The frugal Rio5 is easy on the wallet, both at the dealership and the gas station, making it ideal for first-time buyers as well as weary SUV owners looking for a more practical daily commuter. Did we mention the standard 10-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty?

BMW 3 Series. Over the last decade BMW has bolstered its product line, adding crossover SUVs while remaining true to its Ultimate Driving Machine motto. In the midst of the new-product onslaught, the 3 Series has remained its consistent sales leader and the standard of comparison in the sports sedan segment. The 3 Series Coupe is available with two different drivetrains, but both trim levels share distinctive looks and a demeanor that is even more sporting than the well-regarded sedans. The coupe is more than ready to battle prime foes like the Infiniti G35 and the Mercedes-Benz CLK 350.

The complete generational changeover dramatically enhanced the sporting personality of the 3 Series Coupe. Its sharp styling is accompanied by available features like a twin-turbo drivetrain and all-wheel drive.

Land Rover LR2 Review – Kelley Blue Book

The Land Rover LR2 is the kind of SUV made for active lifestyles. What is an active lifestyle? We’re not sure but it might have something to do with kayaks or hiking. All we know is that the LR2 has a luxurious interior, a rugged-looking exterior and can go almost anywhere and that’s an appealing combination no matter what your lifestyle.

Slotting in under the mid-range LR3, the LR2 opens the Land Rover brand to buyers with a smaller budget. The LR2 competes with the popular Acura RDX and BMW X3 but its compelling design and legendary Land Rover capabilities make it a strong entry into the now-crowded luxury SUV category.

2010 Chevy Camaro Video Review – Kelley Blue Book Takes the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for a Spin

Posted by admin on August 28th, 2009 and filed under auto reviews | 25 Comments »

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, 2010 Chevy Camaro doesn’t hit dealerships until February of ‘09, but we recently had the chance to slip behind the wheel of a V6-powered pre-production model. Despite a camouflage paint job and an unfinished interior, our Camaro was dubbed a “golden car” by the engineers; meaning that it was a good representation of what the production car would be like. In the few hours we spent driving through hilly terrain in San Diego, we were especially impressed by the Cadillac-sourced, 300-horsepower V6 that delivered strong acceleration (Chevy estimates zero-to-60-mph times in the low six-second range) along with sounds that evoked World War II-era dive bombers. Camaro fanatics will no doubt gravitate toward the V8 once it arrives, but the base powertrain proved no slouch. The car’s suspension was also impressive, smoothing out rough downtown potholes while still providing responsive handling and great grip. The verdict? We’re even more anxious to get our hands on the finished product. For more new car reviews, interviews and automotive news visit kbb.com today.

Porsche Cayman Review – Kelley Blue Book

Porsche Cayman. There are cars that are faster, pricier and more aggressive looking than the Porsche Cayman. But in strictly aesthetic terms few cars match the sheer desirability of the Cayman’s seductive shape. Essentially a fixed-roof version of the Porsche Boxster, the Cayman transcends its roots to become something distinct from and perhaps even better than the car from which it was derived.

Before the Cayman came on the scene, the only coupe offered by Porsche was the much more expensive 911. Combining a more accessible price with enough comfort and practicality to serve as daily transportation, the Cayman also delivers all the driving excitement enthusiasts have come to expect from a Porsche.
